This ambitious project is the result of a joint workshop programme that has taken place over the last 8 weeks in Tokyo, London and Folkestone with staff and students from Tokyo University of the Arts and Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London.
Informed by the theme of the Folkestone Triennial, Double Edge, the workshop in Tokyo focused attention on research, development of ideas and possible approaches to producing socially engaged and context based artworks. With the design and fabrication of the Pavillion underway, the students further developed and prepared their collaborative and solo projects in London. Finally, arriving in Folkestone, the students have worked with and been supported by local artists and residents to realize their artworks. We hope that you enjoy the results of this intensive and challenging project and would like to thank everyone who has helped to make it possible.
